About Digital Genealogist

Digital Genealogist, LLC, was formed in 2006 by Elizabeth Kelley Kerstens, cg, cgl. The company exists solely to create and distribute Digital Genealogist, a digital magazine.

Editor

Elizabeth Kelley Kerstens, cg, cgl, is the managing editor of the magazine and owner of the company. Liz brings many years of editing experience to this publication. In addition to DG, Liz is also editor of the NGS NewsMagazine. Previously she has been the managing editor, editor, or designer of

Liz is the creator of the software program Clooz—the electronic filing cabinet for genealogical records, and co-creator of the software program GeneWeaver for your family health history. She authored the books Plymouth's First Century: Innovators and Industry, a photo history of Plymouth, Michigan, and Plymouth in Vintage Postcards, a postcard history of 20th-century Plymouth. Liz is also the executive director at the Plymouth Historical Museum in Plymouth, Michigan. She retired from the United States Marine Corps in 1999 as a Major.

Editorial Board

The editorial board for Digital Genealogist consists of genealogical professionals that bring a variety of backgrounds and expertise to the magazine.

Ann Carter Fleming, cg, cgl, is an author, lecturer, researcher, volunteer, and former president of NGS and the St. Louis Genealogical Society. She co-authored Research in Missouri. She has attended NIGR and four IGHR courses.

Marie Varrelman Melchiori, cg, cgl, has been a full-time researcher since 1979, specializing in Union and Confederate records at the National Archives, Washington, D.C. She lectures on military records at NGS and FGS conferences, Samford University's IGHR, and the National Archives. She was assistant director and a lecturer for NIGR from 1987-2002. Marie received APG's Smallwood Award of Merit, 1999.

Craig Roberts Scott, cg, is the CEO and president of Heritage Books, Inc., a genealogical publishing firm located in Westminster, Maryland, with more than 2,600 titles in print. The bookstore division, Willow Bend Books, is the largest genealogy bookstore in the world. A professional genealogical and historical researcher for more than nineteen years, he specializes in the records of the National Archives, especially those that relate to the military. APG director and IGHR faculty.

Susan Zacharias is the layout manager of the NGS NewsMagazine and the past editor of the award-winning publication, OGS Genealogy News, for the Ohio Genealogical Society. Her writings have appeared in several genealogical publications. Susan is a member of NGS, OGS, and the International Society of Family History Writers and Editors.
